First order of business Monday morning, emptying out the chapel.
Next up, tear out the snack shop…
…and knock a hole in the wall…
…so we can use the forklift to remove the heavy benches, rec hall games and snack shop coolers.
We’re grateful for a group of hard workers, and most of them were campers. Here are a few photos… I wish we’d taken a group photo of everyone who helped on this important day.
Some indoor shots that might break your heart a little.
And two final photos from the end of the work day:
Sunday, July 28, 2013
This afternoon a whole passel of camp friends came over to sit in the old chapel one last time for an hour or so of singing together and sharing memories. It was a beautiful sunny day, cool for the end of July.
Lots of memories were made in this gymnasium turned chicken house turned chapel. So many wonderful people were here to celebrate with us, both old(er) and young and everything in between. We’ll be sad to see the old building go, but… it’s time.
In the words of fantastic camp counselor Benj Shirk, (who I hope doesn’t mind being quoted without permission!) “…God will use the new building just as much or more than he used this one since it’s all about Him, not the building.”
We’re immensely grateful for every person who has played a part in making Bethel Camp the life-changing experience that it so often is.
